Graphic Formats

PNG:

PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics. It is a bitmap image format, it uses lossless data compression. PNGs were created to improve upon and replace the GIF. One advantage the PNG has that the GIF doesn't is that it can display more than 256 colors. They are known as "pings".

GIF:

GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. GIFs are image files that are compressed to the time it takes to load. It can also use animated pictures to post in HTML web design. For instance on websites most advertisements that have something move are GIFs.

JPG/JPEG

JPEG stands for Joint Photographics Experts Group, JPG is the file extension used for it. JPGs can have millions of different colors unlike the GIFs. Have a different file qualities ranging from 100 to 1. It can reduces pictures file size to 5% but most of the detail is gone if it is that small.

TIFF

TIFF stands for Tagged Image File Format. It was developed by the Aldus Corporation in 1986. It is  a bit mapped image format that supports different amounts of resolutions. They are used for very big high quality images. One TIFF file can be 4 gigabytes.  It also has a number of different tags to store information about the image.
